CONTEXT OF PRACTICE//PUBLICATION//PHOTOGRAPHY//OUGD501

MY PHOTOGRAPHS:
I feel these set of photographs were the most successful in terms of aesthetics and you can make out some of the silhouettes in the window, however, its not a clear enough in sight as I would of hoped for as it is a voyeurism project and so now I will think about other design ideas and how I could incorporate these photographs into the publication somehow:

CONTEXT OF PRACTICE//PUBLICATION//PHOTOGRAPHY//OUGD501

MY PHOTOGRAPHS:
After doing the research and looking at various photographers I decided to try and take some voyeuristic photographs using the window frame as an entrance to a persons natural environment.  I found this task very difficult for many reasons.  The first one being how restricting it is to get up close to peoples windows without them noticing, the second, capturing the subject at the perfect time, no matter how long you wait people aren't always stood within the window frame and when they are its for a limited period of time.  Finally I have realised you have to have a very high quality camera to capture details and allow the photos to look really clear and well shot.  I think there are probably a few I could use but due to my facilities and time limit I feel I should start thinking of other imagery for the publication as I only have a limited amount of photos that I could use.

these are some of the photographs I took trying to capture something within the window frame, as you can see you can hardly make out the silhouette or the subject had left the window before I took the photograph, the camera also hasn't produced the quality of the photo good enough to get a real feel for invasion in the window frame:

These set of images were the only ones where you can clearly see inside to the subjects house in more detail:

WHAT IS GOOD?//PARIS//EXAMPLES OF RESTAURANT BRANDING//OUGD505

RESTAURANT BRANDING:
I have looked into some restaurant branding to get an idea of ways to design the restaurant and bar element of branding the hotel, design ideas for menus, napkins etc.

I like the stock used on this menu and the clip board adds a nice touch for photographic purposes.  The whole feel of the branding makes a difference when photographs that compliment the style of the branding are shown with it, such as the photo below with the authentic wooden table and cutlery.
I like the simplicity of this logo, especially as it is foiled against black stock, I think this adds to the quality of the branding.  Black stock is something I want to try and incorporate within my design, along with brown type parchment paper, if possible.
This restaurant is called passport and plays on the travelling experience.  On the wooden menu board they have printed different travelling symbols which I think could work well, I could incorporate this by laser cutting some of the designs onto my menu board, such as the metro line or  the french language.
Brown stock against black or white ink works well, depending on the access to paper choices I would definitely like to have this type of style in my branding.  Again, small attention to detail, such as the string tied around the packets of herbs, makes a difference.
Simple clean layout, white stock against black text and brown stock:

HOTEL BRANDING EXAMPLES:
This is a technical specifications for ace hotel properties, the design is simple and again relies on stock and binding techniques, this binding technique is something I would like to try as it looks good but wont be time consuming if I want to make a bulk of books.  In relation to my branding I would like create booklets similar to this that come in each room of the hotel.  Something about Parisian arts and culture to incorporate my research.
This is hotel branding, I quite like the logo design and the stamp used, however, the colour scheme is something I would change when branding my own hotel.  I feel cream, brown (parchment) and black stocks work best to communicate quite a high end hotel.  I want my hotel to be of high quality but still be approachable, with a creative streak throughout the design.
Props such as match boxes and a stamp could work well when taking the photographs of the branding, I think a surface to photograph them is important, a wooden one would be my preference.
This is quite bright white branding, I think some of it works well, the idea of putting a label on the shirt works well for consistency.  I would like to do something quite interesting with the 'do not disturb' door signs because I have seen variations that work well.
This is something I particularly liked about this specific branding, I would like to make something that can slot nicely in to a package or folder because I think it adds to the finishing touch of some of the branding.
This was something I liked about this hotel branding, the use of photography.  I have a few photos of Paris that I feel I could use depending on the quality and the quantity.  Something I'm struggling on is the type face, I can't decide whether the hotel would suit a serif or sans serif type.

BRANDING//HOTEL AND RESTAURANT
As I have changed my original idea from creating a travel pack all about Paris to branding a Parisian hotel, which has an underlining theme of travelling around Paris in a non-conventional tourist sense, I have looked at various restaurant and hotel branding to get some ideas on the type of style I would like my branding to be:

This is my final concept:

THE PARISIAN EXPERIENCE//PARIS HOTEL REBRAND
Create and brand a hotel.  Based on all my Paris research (cuisine, tourist/non-tourist attractions, land marks, language, Parisian culture) my concept is to create, design and brand a hotel based on travelling around Paris.  The hotel is designed in a way where the branding coincides with Parisian culture.  A real feel for the Parisian lifestyle.  The branding will be designed in a simple way that informs the customers about a brief history of Paris and suggests where to go and what to do whilst travelling in Paris, in an unconventional tourist manner.  Branding would include, menu, drinks menu, do not disturb sign, letter head, luggage tags etc.

This is rebranding for a restaurant called Table No. 1, I think the design is simple but works well, especially for the style of restaurant it is trying to communicate.  I really like the brown stock against the black type, this is something I would like to consider when creating my own branding for the hotel, because I feel this colour could imply travelling.
I like the white stock against the brown stock, again I think quality of stock has a massive influence over the style of branding I want to create.  Certain stock shows quality and this is something I want to communicate when branding the hotel.
This is a rebrand of the restaurant Fat Cow by the Foreign design policy.  Again this design is really simple and focusses on the process element of the design.  This is something that I would like when designing my drinks menu, clean white stock and simple type and layout, this is the best way to display this type of information.
This is another rebrand by foreign policy design company for a deli type food place.  What I have learnt from looking at the branding for most of these places so far is the simplicity of it, the logo and design are generally quite simple but the processes and stock play a huge part in the overall feel of the branding.
I like the imagery of the globe in this branding, this is something I could consider when designing areas of my branding as the general theme is travelling paris
For a design agency located in the middle of the Tyrolean Alps – with an economy thriving on summer and winter tourism, it is almost an exception to have not worked on a project within the hotel industry. The Trofana Alpin was the very first of what has now become a group of hotels in the winter sports resort Ischgl. The hotel group is family owned and holds the very foundation of the Von der Thannen family history.

For that reason this project turned into something personal and very close to our hearts. We redesigned the look and feel of the brand with a focus on their exemplary ability to balance tradition with modern convenience and understated luxury.

Interesting take on the door signs, I could use this as inspiration for an interesting take on my own door signs.

Using props for photography such as stationary/clipboards/folders etc. creates a nice aesthetic and works consistently as a range  For my travelling Paris theme I was thinking of using a suit case/passport/camera to create a certain atmosphere and visual style for the photographs.
