Past acts to grace our stage include SBTRKT, Aloe Blacc, Lykke Li, Ugly Duckling, Jehst, Little Dragon, Mayer Hawthorne, Michael Kiwanuka, Fink, Haggis Horns, Corinne Bailey Rae & DJ Format to name but a few! MOVE ON UP-every wednesday night
Moveonup is the north's longest running weekly soul night! Come and dance, dance, dance to the soul sounds of Tamla Motown, Northern Soul, Stax, Atlantic, Girl Groups and Sixties Beats! The hugely popular Moveonup has a playlist that includes:

Esther Philips, Yum Yums, Martha & The Vandellas, Etta James, Stevie Wonder, Rita Dacosta, The Fabulettes, The Sonics, The Supremes, Barbara Acklin, The Mohawks, Marvin Gaye, Buddy Rich and many, many more!

We often reach full capacity so make sure to get down early!

The basement 60s soul party that is MoveOnUp first started attracting the clubbers of Leeds to their weekly residency at the long gone but much missed basement jazz club The Underground in 1996. Founded by DJs and Promoters Ed Mason and John Morelli the night vast became an established landmark of the Leeds social scene! Following the closure of The Underground in summer 2000 the promoters opened their own venue, The HiFi! Now home to MOU and joined by resident DJ and soul aficionado Matt Bolton, the night has been a staple of The HiFi Club and the Leeds nightlife scene ever since.

'MoveOnUp is guaranteed to bring a little swinging sixties sunshine into your life. It’s the kind of night where it is an impossibility not to shout out ‘oh I love this song’ on average about every five minutes!' LEEDS STUDENT

THE COCKPIT:

History of The Cockpit

The Cockpit is an independently run live music and club venue in the heart of Leeds City Centre managed by locally based promoters Futuresound Music. The venue is built underneath a series of three railway arches, giving the venue its distinctive curved ceilings.

The Cockpit opened in 1994 and was previously called The Cock of the North pub. The alternative live music venue was set up by Colin Oliver (still the main band promoter and owner at The Cockpit), while Richard Todd (who joined him a few months later) took charge of our alternative club nights and began the now legendary club, Brighton Beach.
Since opening in 1994, the Cockpit has attracted some of the biggest names in music to Leeds and has remained dedicated to seeking out the most exciting new bands at the very start of their careers. In the last 15 years we've seen Coldplay, The White Stripes, Amy Winehouse, Queens of the Stoneage, Flaming Lips, The Libertines, Mars Volta, My Chemical Romance, Panic at the Disco, The Hives, Elastica, Les Savy Fav, The Killers, At The Drive In, Fall Out Boy, Hot Chip and Bloc Party amongst many, many others take to the Cockpit stages for truly legendary performances.
Gigs take place on our three stages most nights of the week showcasing bands from the Leeds music scene to an international level. MUSIC IN LEEDS-WIKIPEDIA
Leeds has a thriving musical scene, and has produced many notable artists. These include both national chart topping bands such as Kaiser Chiefs, but also smaller, more local bands who play small venues around the city and make up the majority of the music scene.

Leeds plays host to many venues, currently including Leeds University refectory  (where The Who recorded their 1970 live album Live at Leeds), Leeds Metropolitan University , The Cockpit, Brudenell Social Club , The Faversham , The Hi-Fi club , The Well , The Wardrobe, Irish Centre, New Roscoe , The Cardigan Arms, The Fenton, and The Packhorse among others.

The O2 Academy Leeds opened in October 2008 on the site of the former Town & County Club music venue. The 2,300 capacity venue is run by the Academy Music Group and follows in-line with their other music venues around the UK.

Occasional gigs are held in Millennium Square in the city centre (including the Kaiser Chiefs in 2006), Roundhay Park (which was home to Love Parade in 2000 and has hosted gigs by Madonna, U2, Robbie Williams, Michael Jackson and The Rolling Stones), Harewood House, Leeds Town Hall, Leeds Holy Trinity Church and Leeds Parish Church.
In November 2008, plans were approved to build the Leeds Arena on Claypit Lane in Leeds city centre. Funding was approved in December 2009 and work commenced on the site in September 2010. Completion of the 12,500 capacity venue is expected in November 2012
