STUDY TASK TWO://COLOUR FOR PRINT//OUGD504

COLOUR FOR PRINT

Using examples of design for branding & identity, packaging & promotion, publishing & editorial, information & wayfinding explore the following colour systems:
  • CMYK (process)
  • Spot Colour (2 or more)
  • Monochrome & Tints (solid colour and half-tone)
BRANDING AND IDENTITY:

SPOT COLOUR
This is some branding for the Albert Einstein website designed by Matjaž Čuk, a Designer from Slovenia.  I think its a good example of spot colour used, the colour is consistent throughout the design, on the labels and letter including the design on the disc.

EL VIVERO
Real estate branding
Real estate brands in Mexico tend to use a very sophisticated language in their effort to sell an aspirational product. However, we believe that brands should convey as much honesty as possible.

This is real estate branding, this uses the spot colour consistently throughout the design, I like the bold eye catching type and colour in contrast with the simplistic design.
PACKAGING AND PROMOTION

JOHN AND JOHN POTATO CRISPS
I think this packaging works well using spot colour, I think as a collective they look good because each individual spot colour is different, complementing each other well.  I think the spot colour looks good against the bold black type and image on the design of each packet.

PUBLISHING AND EDITORIAL:

SPOT COLOUR
This is an Annual report designed with two spot colours, this is something that looks simple yet effective, stylish in terms of what the actual subject matter is.  I've chosen it because I think its a good example of spot colour and also because I think it works in terms of simple, professional design.

'The Community Justice Authority work towards ‘reducing reoffending’ – a fairly sober topic. The client had previously produced rather bland, digitally printed reports. With little budget to work with, I put two spot colours and two typefaces to work. The result is a minimal, yet attractive piece of print which exceeded the client’s expectations.'

MONOCHROME AND TINTS
CULTURAL CENTRES CATALOG
Design: CeriseH
Client: A Gauche de la Lune & Caravelle
I like the tints of red and blue on this design, I think it makes the photographs more interesting and is in keeping with the colour scheme of the catalog.
BBC PERFORMING ARTS FUND

NEW EDITION.  NYA UPPLAGAN
The magazine's style is inspired by the early asymmetrical typography which grew strong in Switzerland and Germany in the early 50 century.
This style, the asymmetrical, began as an antithesis to the symmetrical, classical, typography, and questioned the values that existed for so
long.

I really like the design and layout of this new edition newspaper, I think the tints in the photographs work really well and create a more
interesting, refined look for a magazine.
